The Philippines chaired the ASEAN+3 Meeting on Oct. 13, Sunday. Pakistan chaired the Asia Pacific Group Meeting afterwards.

ASSEMBLY and GENERAL DEBATE:

Sen. Lacson and colleagues from the Philippine delegation attended the general debates on the theme: Strengthening International Law: Parliamentary Roles and Mechanisms, and the Contribution of Regional Cooperation.

Speaking on behalf of the Philippine delegation, Senate President Vicente Sotto III delivered a speech on Oct. 14, Monday, where he noted that international law is the cornerstone of a peaceful, orderly, secure and just world. He added countries outside the great powers and developing states, like the Philippines, have turned to international law as the great equalizer. “As iron is strengthened by fire, international law is strengthened by parliaments,” he said.

Philippine Senate President Sotto presided over the general debates on emergency items in the agenda, including climate change.
