Lacson Quotes Chinese Writing in Dismissing Marcoleta Accusations

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Wednesday quoted a Chinese writing in dismissing the allegations made by Sen. Rodante Marcoleta in his privilege speech Tuesday.

Lacson said he chose not to respond to Marcoleta’s repeated accusations over a supposed spliced video, which he already denied.

“Yesterday, I was tempted but chose not to respond. I would have used a language that my colleague may better understand: ‘Xiao chong bu ke yu bing’. It means, ‘You cannot explain ice to a summer insect,’” he said in a post on his X account.

Yesterday, I was tempted but chose not to respond. I would have used a language that my colleague may better understand: “Xiao chong bu ke yu bing”.
It means, “You cannot explain ice to a summer insect.”

“What is there to splice when his utterances during the Commission on Appointments confirmation hearing last February 4 could not have been interpreted any other way than ‘surrender the KIG’ that even a kindergarten pupil can fully comprehend?” Lacson added.

The saying quoted by Lacson is attributed to the Zhuangzi, an ancient Chinese text that consists of stories and maxims.

Earlier, Lacson had branded as “entirely baseless and constitute malicious imputation of wrongdoing” Marcoleta’s allegation that he supposedly “spliced” a recording of Marcoleta’s pronouncements suggesting that we “give up” the Kalayaan Island Group to China, saying the post merely replayed the statements with no such splicing involved.

“Yesterday, I was tempted but chose not to respond. I would have used a language that my colleague may better understand: ‘Xiao chong bu ke yu bing’. It means, ‘You cannot explain ice to a summer insect,’” pahayag niya sa isang post sa kanyang X account.

“What is there to splice when his utterances during the Commission on Appointments confirmation hearing last February 4 could not have been interpreted any other way than ‘surrender the KIG’ that even a kindergarten pupil can fully comprehend?” dagdag ng mambabatas.
