To prevent unauthorized vehicles from using the busway along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), why not make the buses using it go the other way?
Former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson proposed this solution on Friday, following numerous reports of abuse by violators – including a convoy of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“EDSA BUSWAY: To prevent unauthorized vehicles from using the bus way, MMDA may consider studying the infrastructure reconfiguration to reverse the direction of buses passing through the bus lanes and make the problem solve itself. Nobody wants a head-on collision,” Lacson said in a post on X.
Lacson also stressed there should not be any “exemptions” from the rule. “Exempt yourself at your own risk,” he said.

The EDSA busway is a dedicated bus lane that aims to give commuters a safe and reliable option for transport.
Earlier this week, the PNP used the restricted lane due to the “urgent” need for a senior officer to get to PNP headquarters in Camp Crame.
On Thursday, Malacanang reminded the PNP against using the term “emergency” as an excuse to break the busway rules.

Ang EDSA busway ay isang dedicated bus lane na may layuning bigyan ng ligtas at maaasahang pagbiyahe para sa mga commuter.
Nitong Martes, ginamit ng isang PNP convoy ang restricted lane dahil diumano dahil may “urgent” na pangangailangan ang isang senior officer na makapunta agad sa PNP headquarters sa Camp Crame.
Nitong Huwebes, pinaalalahanan ng Malacanang ang PNP laban sa paggamit ng “emergency” bilang dahilan para labagin ang busway rules.
