Lacson Resolution Seeks Probe into EDSA Rehab Projects After Fresh Potholes Emerge

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson is seeking an investigation into the rehabilitation and repair of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) after fresh potholes emerged on newly repaired portions of the highway following recent monsoon rains.

Lacson’s Senate Resolution 594 directs the Senate Committee on Public Works to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation with the end in view of reviewing design and engineering standards and ensuring accountability in public infrastructure.

“For nearly a week, persistent southwest monsoon (habagat) rains have drenched parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila; damaging several main thoroughfares, including recently rehabilitated sections of EDSA. The presence of fresh potholes means the newly repaired avenue will already require another round of maintenance,” he said in his resolution.

“Rapid deterioration of recently rehabilitated roads, most notably EDSA, just months after completion exposes deep-seated flaws in the planning, design, construction, and management of high-cost public infrastructure projects,” he added.

Lacson Pushes More Random Checks vs Fake Ambulance Emergency Runs at Rush Hour

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Friday pushed for more random checks targeting fake emergency runs by ambulances especially at rush hour.

Lacson pointed out that such vehicles, which use loud sirens, are not only annoying but can be potential hazards to motorists and commuters.

“More random checks on siren-blaring ‘ambulances’ especially during rush hours should be conducted. Drivers of vehicles with no emergency patients must be apprehended, their licenses revoked and charged, if warranted. Aside from (being) annoying, they can be traffic hazards,” he said on X.

Ping Lacson Cites Added Safety Feature for Commuters with EDSA Busway ‘Counterflow’

Commuters stand to benefit from an added safety feature stemming from former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson’s proposal to reverse the direction of buses along the busway at Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).

Lacson said Wednesday that with the proper infrastructure in place, commuters can get off at the center island instead of along the highway and avoid getting hit by cars, since the buses’ doors are on the right side.

“The buses’ doors are on the right side. So if you reverse the traffic flow at the busway, passengers getting off the right side would end up at the center island, so they will be safer,” he said in an interview on Bombo Radyo Philippines.

“Commuters will not be in danger of being hit by oncoming vehicles when they get off,” he added.
