Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson welcomed on Wednesday the breakthrough victory of Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala in the opening round of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships.
Lacson wished Eala continued success as he noted her impressive win is a refreshing break from the “unpleasant atmosphere” surrounding the “protest” rally along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City.
“Watching Alex Eala’s easy win in her first round of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships is a welcome departure from the unpleasant atmosphere in EDSA. Congratulations and good luck!” he said on X.

Eala, 21, earned her maiden main-draw victory at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament early Wednesday (Manila time), prevailing over Renata Zarazua of Mexico in straight sets.
She advances to the next round where she will face the Maya Joint, 20, who beat Serena Williams.
On Tuesday, Lacson noted the irony of the rally organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo where its calls for transparency and accountability and an end to selective justice appear to clash with its support for Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, a member of the religious group who faces accountability issues.
“Pinaglalaban mo transparency and accountability, pero ang pinaglalaban mo sangkot sa accountability (They claim to fight for transparency and accountability, but the one they try to protect faces accountability issues),” he said in an interview on One News’ “Storycon” Tuesday afternoon.

“Watching Alex Eala’s easy win in her first round of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships is a welcome departure from the unpleasant atmosphere in EDSA. Congratulations and good luck!” aniya sa X.
