Lacson Pushes More Random Checks vs Fake Ambulance Emergency Runs at Rush Hour

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Friday pushed for more random checks targeting fake emergency runs by ambulances especially at rush hour.

Lacson pointed out that such vehicles, which use loud sirens, are not only annoying but can be potential hazards to motorists and commuters.

“More random checks on siren-blaring ‘ambulances’ especially during rush hours should be conducted. Drivers of vehicles with no emergency patients must be apprehended, their licenses revoked and charged, if warranted. Aside from (being) annoying, they can be traffic hazards,” he said on X.

Lacson: MRT-3’s Free Rides for National ID Holders Good But ‘Unfair’

No thanks to the poor implementation of the National ID law, many poor and deserving commuters may be denied the chance to avail of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3)’s “Libreng Sakay” this month, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Wednesday.

Lacson, who co-authored and sponsored what is now RA 11055 or the Act Establishing a Philippine Identification System, noted many Filipinos still do not have an ID despite having applied for one years ago.

“This is good but unfair to poor and deserving commuters who will not be benefited by failure of government to provide the national IDs to them in spite of having applied months, even years ago,” he said in a post on X.

Jeepney Driver’s Son Ping Lacson Proposes Win-Win Solution to Jeepney Modernization Row in Negros

TALISAY CITY, Negros Occidental – Former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Friday proposed a win-win solution that will address the concerns of jeepney operators and drivers regarding the government’s jeepney modernization program in this province.

Lacson, whose father was a jeepney driver, suggested a setup where jeepney drivers get to retain their individual franchises, and not have to transfer the ownership of such franchises to a cooperative.

He said he would bring this up to new Transportation Secretary Vivencio “Vince” Dizon for his consideration.

“Jeepney drivers or operators will retain their individual franchises, even if the franchises are made a requirement to be a member of a cooperative. Because if the franchise is transferred to the cooperative, the drivers and operators feel they have lost ownership,” Lacson said in Filipino at the press conference of the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate here.

On the DoTr’s ‘No Vaccination, No Ride’ Policy

First, it begs the question – are there enough vaccine doses available even for the willing? If not, it’s unfair.

Indiscriminately punishing even the willing but have no choice due to government shortcomings in providing for their protection should first be taken into consideration before taking a drastic action of possibly denying those people their means of livelihood to feed their families.

It is a different matter altogether if vaccines are available to all. By all means, we have the right to be insulated from a higher risk of infection. At least both sides have an option.
