Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga may have been exploited by some parties to push their “self-seeking political agenda,” Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Friday as he expressed sympathy for the lawmaker’s mother, Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga.
Lacson said that while it was the younger Barzaga who posted a months-old photo of Lacson with the Discaya couple last Oct. 1, he could not have done that without someone providing him with that photo.
“I feel for our dear friend, Mayor Jenny Barzaga. As the mayor of Dasmariñas City, she must have her hands full serving her constituents. The last thing she needs is the evil-mindedness of people who use her son Kiko’s mental state to advance their self-seeking political agenda,” he said in a post on X.

Earlier, Lacson debunked insinuations about the photo with the Discayas, saying it was taken during the campaign period, way before the start of the investigation into anomalous flood control projects.
He pointed out that a supporter from Davao City accompanied the Discayas to invite him to a political rally. Lacson declined the invitation.
“As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words. Obviously, I didn’t know them before that photo was taken,” he said.
Lacson said the posting of the photo was likely meant to discredit the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which is investigating the matter. Lacson chairs the committee.
In an interview on DZMM Thursday, Lacson noted the malice behind the posting of the photo on Barzaga’s social media account.
“They used Kiko Barzaga. He was the one who posted the picture on his page, but how would he do that if no one gave him that photo?” he added in Filipino.

Maaaring ginagamit si Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga ng ilang grupo para sa kanilang makasariling “political agenda,” ayon kay Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson nitong Biyernes, sabay pagpahayag ng simpatiya sa ina ng mambabatas na si Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga.
Ani Lacson, bagaman nai-post ng nakababatang Barzaga ang isang lumang litrato ni Lacson kasama ang mag-asawang Discaya noong Oktubre 1, hindi niya ito magagawa kung walang nagbigay sa kanya ng naturang larawan.

Nauna nang pinabulaanan ni Lacson ang mga parinig ukol sa larawan kasama ang mag-asawang Discaya, at sinabing kuha ito noong panahon ng kampanya, bago pa magsimula ang imbestigasyon ukol sa mga kuwestiyonableng flood control projects.
Isang supporter mula sa Davao City ang sumama sa mga Discaya upang imbitahin siya sa isang political rally. Tinanggihan ni Lacson ang imbitasyon.

Dagdag ni Lacson, malamang na ang pag-post ng larawan ay may layong siraan ang Senate Blue Ribbon Committee na siyang nag-iimbestiga sa naturang usapin. Si Lacson ang namumuno sa komite.
Sa panayam sa DZMM nitong Huwebes, binigyang-diin ni Lacson ang malisya sa likod ng pag-post ng larawan sa social media account ni Barzaga.
“Ginamit nila si Kiko Barzaga, siya ang nag-post pero paano malaman ni Kiko Barzaga kung walang nag-feed sa kanya na malisyoso o malisyosa?” aniya.
