Ping Lacson to PNP, AFP: Remain Professional Amid ‘Calls’ for Partisan Action

Remain professional and loyal to the country. This was former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson’s message to the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines, amid reported calls for partisan activity following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Lacson also said Saturday that members of the PNP and AFP should double-check such calls especially those made through social media, because of the proliferation of fake news.

“They should remain professional and loyal to their duty. That is the best message,” he said in Filipino in an interview on DZRH radio.

“In this day and age of information technology, fake news spreads fast. And we know that is in their training to conduct fact-checking first. If there are reports of partisan activity, they should not get involved,” he added.

Ping Lacson: Balance of Power Proving Effective vs Threats in WPS

DUMAGUETE CITY – The balance of power that the Marcos administration has adopted is proving effective so far in fending off threats in the West Philippine Sea, former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Thursday.

Lacson reiterated his full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s policy of the Philippines not surrendering “not even an inch” of our territory.

“One thing the President did that I support, is that he allied with other countries that are as militarily strong if not stronger than China. This is what I have been espousing – the balance of power,” he said in Filipino at a press conference of the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate here.

On China’s Latest Act of Aggression in the WPS

Maybe it’s time for the AFP-DND leadership to review their policy on contracting private civilian vessels in future regular resupply missions in Ayungin Shoal and put to test the efficacy of the MDT’s protective shield against China’s aggression.

That said, removing BRP Sierra Madre, or decommissioning it as a Philippine Navy shipremoving BRP Sierra Madre, or decommissioning it as a Philippine Navy ship is tantamount to giving up on Ayungin Shoal, etc., thus surrendering our territorial integrity on a silver platter. Remember the “attack on public vessel” provision in the MDT?

On Proposed Amendments to the Law Prescribing Fixed Terms for Key AFP Officers

While Congress has the power to amend any law, I do not see the wisdom or logic in amending Republic Act 11709, a new law which has not been tested yet.

In fact, the final version is generally the same as the original legislative proposal submitted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Department of National Defense, with some amendments of course.

Further, the implementing rules and regulations crafted by the former DND officials led by ex-OIC Jose Faustino Jr. do not conform with the provisions of the law, which I sponsored and co-authored in the Senate.
