Lacson: Legal Consequences Loom for Participants at Bogus June 4 Hearing

Legal consequences may loom for those who gave “testimonies” as well as for other participants at the bogus Blue Ribbon Committee hearing led by disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano last Thursday, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Friday.

The participants in the so-called hearing, including senators from the now-minority bloc, may not invoke parliamentary immunity since it was not an official Senate proceeding, Lacson said.

“Yes, they can be charged, possibly for cyber libel and other crimes since it was a bogus hearing and no parliamentary immunity may be invoked, not even the senators who participated,” he said.

Pathetic, Lacson Says of Cayetano Insistence to Preside Over VP’s Impeachment Trial

Disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano is pathetic and so detached from reality.

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson thus dismissed on Friday Cayetano’s insistence that he will preside over Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial because he is still Senate President.

“He is pathetic. I do not know why he is acting weirdly lately. He is so detached from reality. For a change, he should listen to reason as expressed independently by the following who have validated the action taken by 12 of his colleagues last Wednesday,” he said.

Lacson: Cayetano Lacks Avelino’s Decency, Respect for Rule of Law to Let Supreme Court Resolve Senate Leadership Issue

Disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano does not have the decency or respect for the rule of law like former Senate President Jose Avelino to resolve his dispute with the new Senate leadership through the Supreme Court, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Friday.

Lacson said that while Avelino filed a petition with the Supreme Court to settle a leadership row with Mariano Cuenco, Cayetano resorted to playing dirty.

“Thank you Philstar for plainly explaining all the similarities in the two Senate controversies; the only difference being – Avelino brought his case to the Supreme Court. Cayetano does not have Avelino’s decency and respect for the same rule of law,” he said in a post on X.

Lacson Slams Disgraced Ex-Senate President Cayetano for Dragging Name in Bogus ‘Hearing’

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Thursday slammed disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano for desperately and baselessly dragging his name into a bogus hearing of the Blue Ribbon Committee.

Lacson said Cayetano’s attempt to link him to allegations involving the delivery of suitcases of cash through a helicopter was based on innuendoes and succeeded only in exposing Cayetano’s disgusting behavior.

“Disgraced ex-SP Cayetano desperately dragged my name in a bogus BRC hearing without an iota of evidence or even a tiny bit of basis or reason except to pull me into a corruption controversy. He exposed his loathsome behavior by using overstretched innuendos. He is disgusting,” Lacson said on X.

Lacson: With Cayetano No Longer Senate President, Time for Senate to Go Back to Work

Now that Alan Peter Cayetano is no longer Senate President and the chamber’s top post is temporarily vacant following Wednesday’s leadership change, it is time for the Senate to get back to work, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said.

Lacson said a quorum of 12 out of 22 senators was declared as Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada were outside the Senate’s “coercive power,” allowing the chamber to elect Sherwin Gatchalian as Senate President Pro Tempore and acting Senate President.

“Sen. Cayetano is no longer SP. With 12 senators present, a quorum was declared out of the base number of 22 since Sens. de la Rosa and Estrada are outside the “coercive power” of the Senate (Avelino v Cuenco. GR No 2821),” he said on X.

“Hence, we voted to declare all positions vacant, although we could not yet elect a new Senate President because we lacked the 13 votes required under the Constitution,” he added.
