“Figures from the PSA as of March 28 this year shows the Philippines’ midyear population will reach 110,198,654 by July 1. Of this, 62 percent or 68.323 million are adults. If we multiply this by P446 per dose, including logistical costs, we will need about P30.472 billion to inoculate our adult Filipinos. Thus the difference of P26.83 billion is more than enough to cover the P25-billion requirement to procure the vaccines for our minors,” paliwanag ni Lacson.

“Based on these figures, we may not need to look for an additional P25 billion since it is amply covered by the ‘excess’ in borrowings,” dagdag ng mambabatas.

Lacson: Funding for Minors’ Vaccination Amply Covered by Existing Borrowings

The P57.3 billion in loans already secured by the government for the procurement of vaccines can cover the P25-billion requirement for the vaccination of minors, Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson said Friday.

Lacson cited updated figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) indicating only P30.462 billion may be needed to inoculate 68.2 million adult Filipinos this year.

“Figures from the PSA as of March 28 this year shows the Philippines’ midyear population will reach 110,198,654 by July 1. Of this, 62 percent or 68.323 million are adults. “Based on these figures, we may not need to look for an additional P25 billion since it is amply covered by the ‘excess’ in borrowings,” he added.

“What a Mess: A Dumping Ground of Garbage and Drugs”

We spend a great deal of taxpayers’ money for an automated processing system, x-ray scanners, even for brokers’ accreditation, not to mention fairly high salaries for seasoned military men at the helm of the Bureau of Customs. But at the end of the day – all our efforts be damned — we are still one hell of a mess.

Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, I rise before you on a matter of personal and collective privilege.

To say that our country is treated like trash appears to be true, as in literally, amid news reports of tons of waste being illegally shipped into our lands, no thanks to local and foreign smugglers, unscrupulous Customs brokers and corrupt Customs officials.

No Time to Waste in Passing Stronger, Balanced Anti-Terror Measure

Amid the continuing threat of terrorism, there is no time to waste in passing a stronger, balanced, and useful measure to stop it, Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson said.

Lacson said he is working to fast-track such a measure, which gives authorities more flexibility while upholding human rights, before Congress goes on Christmas break.

“There is no time to waste. Our present anti-terrorism law, the Human Security Act, is already 11 years old, yet no person or organization has ever been prosecuted under it. From 2007 to 2018, the law’s only ‘accomplishment’ was the proscription of the Abu Sayyaf as a terrorist group,” Lacson said.

“We understand the predicament of law enforcers. All they seek is a little flexibility. But we will also make sure respect for human rights will be primordial,” he added.
