Sa papalapit na eleksyon sa Mayo, mas maigting na pagbabantay ang dapat gawin ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa posibleng unauthorized access sa kanilang mga datos, sa kabila ng pahayag ng Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center na hindi na-hack ang kanilang servers kamakailan.

Ayon kay Partido Reporma standard bearer Senador Ping Lacson, napag-alaman ng kanyang cybersecurity team sa kanilang initial findings na posibleng extortion ang motibo ng pag-atake – pero posible na makompromiso ang integridad ng eleksyon sa Mayo kung hindi maglalagay ng karagdagang pag-iingat ang Comelec.

Pinaniniwalaang nakompromiso ang seguridad ng sistema ng Smartmatic na tumatayong contractor ng Comelec para sa nalalapit na halalan.

While its servers may not have been hacked after all, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) must remain on guard against possible unauthorized access to its data as the May polls draw closer.

Partido Reporma standard-bearer Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson noted the Comelec will soon be interfacing with contractor Smartmatic, whose system was believed compromised.

Lacson said that while his cybersecurity team’s initial findings indicate extortion is the possible motive of the hack, the integrity of the May elections will be endangered if the Comelec does not put safeguards in place.
