Not His Style

Dear Editor,
This is to set the record straight regarding the insinuations in your 22 December 2021 commentary that Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will relegate constitutional rights to the backseat should he be elected president in 2022.
While Sen. Lacson has been known for his strict and no-nonsense brand of leadership, which he will apply in his efforts to discipline the bureaucracy and rid the government of its ills, including corruption, he has repeatedly made it clear he will uphold the basic rights of Filipinos as enshrined in the 1987 Constitution.
Even when he sponsored what is now the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 in the Senate, Sen. Lacson made sure that the measure contained safeguards to protect basic human rights.
We thus wonder where the Daily Tribune got its information that Sen. Lacson plans to “install an authoritarian regime headed by a one-man super administrator who will not take legitimate dissent lightly.” To put it mildly, it is a disservice to the Daily Tribune’s readers, and a gross misrepresentation of Sen. Lacson’s personal character and style of leadership.
Nevertheless, we hope this clears the air. Thank you.
Respectfully yours,
Joel Locsin
Media Relations Officer
Office of Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson
