Citing his heavy workload, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson relinquished on Monday the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation to Sen. Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros.
Lacson said he discussed the matter during the majority bloc’s caucus at noon, and that Hontiveros was amenable to taking over as chairperson of the committee.

“Puno ako sa Blue Ribbon and Accounts, Senate President Pro Tempore pa ako. Amenable naman si Sen. Hontiveros to chair (I have my hands full as chairman of the Blue Ribbon and Accounts Committees. I am also Senate President Pro Tempore. Sen. Hontiveros is amenable to chair the committee),” he said.
Aside from serving as Senate President Pro Tempore, Lacson chairs the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which is looking into the corruption behind anomalous flood control projects, among others; as well as the Committee on Accounts.
During the Senate session, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri formally informed the Senate that Lacson communicated his intention to relinquish chairmanship of the committee, and moved to elect Hontiveros as committee chairperson.

Dahil sa bigat ng kanyang trabaho, binitawan ni Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson nitong Lunes ang pagiging tagapangulo ng Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation para ibigay kay Sen. Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros.
Ayon kay Lacson, tinalakay niya ang usaping ito sa caucus ng majority bloc nitong tanghali, at pumayag naman si Hontiveros na pumalit bilang tagapangulo ng komite.
“Puno ako sa Blue Ribbon and Accounts, Senate President Pro Tempore pa ako. Amenable naman si Sen. Hontiveros to chair,” aniya.
Bukod sa pagiging Senate President Pro Tempore, si Lacson din ang namumuno sa Senate Blue Ribbon Committee—na kasalukuyang nag-iimbestiga sa katiwalian sa likod ng mga maanomalyang flood control projects—pati na rin sa Committee on Accounts.
Sa sesyon ng Senado, pormal na ipinaalam ni Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri na nagpahayag si Lacson ng intensyong bitawan ang pamumuno sa naturang komite, at naghain ng mosyon para ihalal si Hontiveros bilang bagong tagapangulo nito.
