What the Proposed Parents Welfare Act Is, and Isn’t

Like many of us, Filipinos, I loved my parents dearly and unequivocally. I never left them in their old age, nor on their sickbed, and I supported them until they breathed their last.

I did everything I could to hold on to them in the waning years of their lives. Despite the bleak odds implied by their doctors, my siblings and I kept hoping and praying that they could recover and stay a little longer with us.

The Lolo Narding Saga Continues

I went to Asingan, Pangasinan last Thursday, Jan. 20. It was a 174-kilometer ride from home. I wanted to make sure I had all the facts first before offering my help. I was aware that I was dealing with somebody with a pending criminal case for theft. Nevertheless, I decided to help.

Here’s the twist: Narding Flores, the 80-year-old former caretaker of the property, did steal three (3) sacks of mangoes worth P12,000, not ten (10) kilograms as earlier claimed. He sold the mangoes in the local “talipapa” and had already spent the proceeds.

Much earlier, for unknown reasons, he was dismissed as caretaker by the property owner.

The Kind of Leader Our Country Needs Now

Running for President of this country should not be aimed against any particular person. Rather, it must purely depend on our honest desire to uplift the lives of our countrymen who have suffered more than enough from incompetence and shameless corruption, mostly caused by the callous machinations of those in power whose conscience has given way to their greed.
