Ping Lacson to Help Mindoro Realize Potential as Port, Agri Hub

SANTA CRUZ, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – During his visit here on Saturday, former Senator Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson broached the idea that should he earn a Senate seat, he intends to help Occidental Mindoro realize its potential as a premier port and as an agricultural hub in the country, using lessons from the province’s history.

Lacson said Occidental Mindoro – whose strategic economic potential was seen several centuries ago – could become a center for trade like Singapore, if it is given the proper road network and other development projects.

On Tech-Driven Agriculture

Tech-driven farming is long overdue. Our ASEAN neighbors have left our agricultural sector at least one generation behind. First things first – Congress must amend RA 2874 (Public Land Act of 1919). Since 1994, at least 18 Land Use Act bills have been filed. What gives?

Eighteen bills filed by both houses of Congress are more than enough to reconcile and come up with a good Enrolled Bill. A lot actually depends on the committee chairpersons of the two chambers. If they want the measure passed into law, we can have a Land Use Act sooner than expected.
