AMLC: Lacson, Gatchalian Budget Boost Allowed Us to Integrate AI vs Money Laundering

A P162.9-million boost in its 2026 budget, facilitated by Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson and then Senate finance committee chairman Sherwin Gatchalian, helped the Anti-Money Laundering Council integrate artificial intelligence in its anti-money laundering efforts this year.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor and AMLC Chairman Eli Remolona Jr. said this Thursday, nearly a year after Blue Ribbon hearings on the flood control scandal highlighted gaps in the country’s anti-money laundering efforts amid massive cash transactions involving contractors.

Lacson: China’s Depiction of Filipinos as ‘Monkeys’ Reflects on Its Character

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson condemned China’s depiction of Filipinos as monkeys in an AI-generated video, saying the racist portrayal reflects more on China’s character than on the Filipino people.

“Kung unggoy ang turing nila sa mga Pilipino, ano sila kung pag-uugali at karakter ang batayan (If China considers Filipinos as monkeys, then what does it say about its character)?” he said.

China Daily, a state-run media outlet, published the AI-generated video concerning the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award – among other content belittling the Philippines and the Arbitral Award.

Lacson: Proper Handling, Forensic Tools Crucial to Authenticating Digital Evidence in AI Age

Proper handling and use of forensic tools are crucial to authenticating digital evidence in court, particularly amid growing concerns over artificial intelligence (AI)-generated and manipulated content, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson stressed Wednesday.

During his interpellation of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agent John Mark Calilung in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, Lacson said this should also apply to the recording of the Vice President’s online press conference that he authenticated.

“I’m not here to question the authenticity, I just want to be assured dahil sabi ko nga kanina pagka sa AI napakahirap talaga almost impossible to distinguish it from the original video or source (I’m not here to question the authenticity. I just want to be assured because with AI, it’s almost impossible to distinguish a tampered video from the original video or source),” Lacson said.
