Lacson: Sandiganbayan Denial of Jinggoy Motion Could Spare Impeachment Court from Potentially Interfering with Judicial Process

The Sandiganbayan’s denial of Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada’s motion to attend the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio could spare the Impeachment Court from acting on a pending motion that may imply interference with an ongoing judicial process, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Friday.

Lacson noted that Senator-Judge Alan Peter Cayetano had asked the Impeachment Court to communicate with the Sandiganbayan to allow Sens. Estrada and Rodante Marcoleta to attend the trial, even as both face plunder and graft charges before the anti-graft court.

“That would spare the Impeachment Court from acting on the pending motion of Senator-Judge Alan Cayetano for us to ‘ask the Sandiganbayan to allow Senators Estrada (and Marcoleta) to participate in the impeachment trial’, which may impliedly suggest that we are interfering with an ongoing judicial process,” he said.

“I believe we still have to discuss the matter among ourselves as it is just my humble opinion,” he added.

Lacson: Marcoleta Plunder Case Could Lead to a ‘Reverse Trial’

The plunder case lodged against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta could turn into a “reverse trial” with prosecutors merely sitting back while the respondent argues against the evidence that he himself placed on record, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Saturday.

Lacson noted that Marcoleta effectively made an “admission against interest” on television by acknowledging that he received cash donations for his senatorial campaign while serving as a congressman, yet failed to disclose them in his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE).

“REVERSE TRIAL: The prosecutor may just sit and watch with folded arms while the respondent argues against himself and the damning evidence that he himself presented in plain view of all the witnesses who watched his ‘admission against interest’ on national TV,” Lacson said on X.

Lacson Cheers Alex Eala’s Breakthrough Wimbledon Win

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson welcomed on Wednesday the breakthrough victory of Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala in the opening round of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships.

Lacson wished Eala continued success as he noted her impressive win is a refreshing break from the “unpleasant atmosphere” surrounding the “protest” rally along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City.

“Watching Alex Eala’s easy win in her first round of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships is a welcome departure from the unpleasant atmosphere in EDSA. Congratulations and good luck!” he said on X.

Lacson Trusts Ombudsman Won’t Cave in to Pressure from INC Rallies

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson expressed confidence Tuesday that Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla will not cave in to the pressure stemming from the Iglesia ni Cristo’s rallies in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.

Lacson also expressed optimism that despite disruptions caused by Marcoleta’s supporters, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will maintain peace and order.

“Ombudsman Boying is tough as a Caviteño will always be. I trust that he won’t cave in to the INC rallies and pressure – not today, not tomorrow and certainly not when Sen Marcoleta’s plunder case is filed in court as earlier announced,” Lacson said on X.

“His INC backers may block EDSA all they want and cause traffic jams and chaos to the discomfort of ordinary commuters. Surely, the PNP will be there to maintain peace and order,” he added.

Lacson Calls Out Marcoleta’s Gaslighting Over ‘Planned Arrest’ Claim

It’s gaslighting time once more.

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson called out Sen. Rodante Marcoleta Tuesday for claiming that his impending arrest over plunder charges is linked to the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Marcoleta claimed early Tuesday that the case against him had long been planned, citing Lacson’s remarks weeks earlier that nine more senators could be arrested and jailed.

“It’s gaslighting time once more. The mention of nine senators being possibly incarcerated was a hypothetical statement in the context of determining the base number to compute the constitutional requirement of 2/3 vote of all senators actively participating or not in the impeachment trial,” Lacson said.
