Dear Sir/Ma’am,
We wish to set the record straight regarding the claim in your 26 September 2021 commentary that tagged Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson as a “bully” in the Senate probe of the anomalies in the government’s procurement of medical supplies to deal with the Covid pandemic.
Sen. Lacson has made clear through his actions that evidence will be his guide in the investigation — not only in this particular case but in all other issues involving corruption. Thus his questions are based on the evidence gathered in the course of the investigation.
But it is also worth noting that some of the resource persons questioned by Sen. Lacson gave answers that were misleading, at times to the point of being contemptuous.
On the other hand, Sen. Lacson has repeatedly stressed that the investigation is not targeting any particular personality, but what the evidence eventually points to. Bato-bato sa langit, ang tamaan huwag magalit — even if they are in a certain palatial structure by the Pasig River.
Considering all these, we find the commentary’s “bully” tag as unacceptable — and its imputation of political motives to Sen. Lacson’s actions as incredulous, if not ridiculous.
We hope this clears the air. Thank you.
Respectfully yours
Joel Locsin
