Senator-elect Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson is throwing his support behind fellow Senator-elect and former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III for the Senate presidency in the 20th Congress.
Lacson, in a television interview Thursday evening, cited Sotto’s track record in leading the Upper Chamber.
“For me, it is clear. He is my friend and colleague whose leadership I have experienced. So I think I can reveal and I can be very frank that I will vote for Sen. Sotto,” he said in Filipino in an interview on BNC.

He added Sotto and incumbent Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, whose names have surfaced as contenders for Senate President, are both competent and qualified to lead the Senate.
Meanwhile, Lacson said he continues to prepare for the possibility of being a senator-judge if the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte crosses over to the 20th Congress.
He maintained he will base his eventual decision on the evidence presented by the prosecution and defense, and nothing else.
Not even the pronouncement of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. that he never wanted the Vice President impeached will not affect his mindset.
“What I will focus on is the weight of the evidence to be presented by the prosecution and the defense,” Lacson said.

Ani Lacson sa panayam sa telebisyon Huwebes ng gabi, maganda ang track record ni Sotto sa pamumuno sa Mataas na Kapulungan.
“Ako malinaw naman, siyempre kaibigan ko at matagal ko nang kasama, nasubukan ko ang leadership ni Sen. Sotto. So I think I can reveal, I can be very frank, I will vote for Sen. Sotto,” aniya sa panayam sa BNC.
Dagdag ni Lacson, pantay halos si Sotto at kasalukuyang Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero pagdating sa kumpetensya at kwalipikasyon para mamuno sa Senado.
Samantala, patuloy ang paghahanda ni Lacson para sa posibilidad na maging senator-judge kung tumawid sa ika-20 Kongreso ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Iginiit niya na ebidensya ng prosekusyon at depensa ang kanyang basehan, at wala nang iba.
Hindi rin makakaapekto sa kanya ang pahayag ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na hindi niya gustong ma-impeach ang Bise Presidente.
“Ang titingnan ko talaga ang weight ng ebidensyang ipapakita, ipepresenta ng prosecution at ang depensang ipe-present naman ng defense team,” aniya.
