Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson welcomed on Monday efforts – including those by Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste – to secure documents and other materials that may further help in the investigation into the corruption behind anomalous infrastructure projects.
Lacson said that while he is not privy to the contents of the documents Leviste supposedly received from the late Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Ma. Catalina Cabral, he is glad that Leviste has the initiative to secure the files.
“For me, I’m glad that there is a Rep. Leandro Leviste who I think is hardworking enough to secure material documents that may help shed light on the ongoing investigations related to anomalous infra projects involving several corrupt government officials,” he said.

On Sunday, Leviste posted on his Facebook account that Cabral gave him copies of her files containing information on proponents of DPWH insertions, supposedly upon the instruction of DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon.
But Lacson also pointed out that there is a proper time and venue to disclose whatever information Cabral shared with Leviste before her death. For now, he said Cabral’s family may need time to mourn their loss.
“I’d rather give first the late Undersecretary Cabral’s family some space to grieve and mourn their loss. Matters of disclosing whatever files she shared before her death can still be done by concerned authorities at the proper time and venue,” he said.
Lacson also pointed out that he has always instructed his staff to consolidate and turn over whatever documents he has, whether from Cabral or other sources.
He has consistently shared such documents – including the contents of his two privilege speeches detailing the corruption behind anomalous flood control projects – with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, Ombudsman and the Department of Justice.
“I have always instructed my staff to consolidate and turn over whatever documents I have, whether from Usec Cabral or any other sources to the ICI, Ombudsman or DOJ, as we have been consistently doing since the time I delivered my two privilege speeches all the way to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee investigations,” he said.

“For me, I’m glad that there is a Rep. Leandro Leviste who I think is hardworking enough to secure material documents that may help shed light on the ongoing investigations related to anomalous infra projects involving several corrupt government officials,” ayon kay Lacson.
“I’d rather give first the late Undersecretary Cabral’s family some space to grieve and mourn their loss. Matters of disclosing whatever files she shared before her death can still be done by concerned authorities at the proper time and venue,” aniya.
“I have always instructed my staff to consolidate and turn over whatever documents I have, whether from Usec Cabral or any other sources to the ICI, Ombudsman or DOJ, as we have been consistently doing since the time I delivered my two privilege speeches all the way to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee investigations,” aniya.
