FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City – The Senate may need to revisit its rules to address the continued absence of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Saturday.
Lacson said the Senate may have a chance to take a closer and more serious look at the situation involving dela Rosa in its all-senators’ caucus on Monday.
As far as plenary, wala kaming rules. I think we should revisit the rules of the Senate para ma-incorporate ang situation like that of Sen Bato (We have rules about continuous absences in Senate committees, where a senator can lose a committee membership due to such absences. But we don’t have such rules that apply to the plenary. I think we should revisit the rules of the Senate to incorporate the situation of Sen. dela Rosa),” he said at an interview here after the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Alumni Association’s homecoming.

Dela Rosa has stopped attending Senate sessions since late last year. He has been in hiding since Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against him in connection with the last administration’s war on drugs.
The ICC has also tagged dela Rosa and Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as “co-perpetrators” of the last administration’s anti-drug war.
Lacson said that while the senators have discussed possible courses of action to address dela Rosa’s situation, there has been no consensus so far.
“I think we should take it seriously. On Monday, pag may all-senators’ caucus, it could come up and we could have a consensus (I think we should take it seriously. On Monday, during the all-senators’ caucus, it could come up and we could have a consensus),” he said.

Lacson: Kailangang Ma-Revisit ang Rules ng Senado para Tugunan ang Sitwasyon ni Sen. Bato
As far as plenary, wala kaming rules. I think we should revisit the rules of the Senate para ma-incorporate ang situation like that of Sen Bato,” ani Lacson sa panayam matapos ang homecoming ng Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Alumni Association.
“I think we should take it seriously. On Monday, pag may all-senators’ caucus, it could come up and we could have a consensus,” aniya.
