Despite her fourth-round exit at the Wimbledon Championships, Alex Eala remains a true champion for continuing to inspire young Filipinos to dream big beyond their means, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Wednesday.
Lacson said one defeat should not define Eala, whose remarkable Wimbledon campaign where she dethroned Iga Swiatek served as a much-needed detoxifier for the nation and a unifying force for Filipinos.
“Alex Eala didn’t disappoint us with her loss in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships. Failure is not measured by one defeat. She continues to inspire and motivate our youth who dare to dream big beyond their means. That makes her a true champion,” he said on X.

Eala’s bid for a quarterfinal berth ended after a hard-fought loss to Jasmine Paolini, but her historic run earned the admiration of Filipinos.
She became the first Filipino player to reach the fourth round of the prestigious Grand Slam singles tournament.
Last weekend, Lacson said Eala was a much-needed detoxifier amid the country’s highly toxic atmosphere – and a unifier of a deeply divided nation.
“She is the detoxifier that our country’s highly toxic atmosphere needs and an influential unifier of a deeply divided nation. Thank you Alex Eala for lifting the Filipino spirit. God bless you and the Philippines,” he said.

“Alex Eala didn’t disappoint us with her loss in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships. Failure is not measured by one defeat. She continues to inspire and motivate our youth who dare to dream big beyond their means. That makes her a true champion,” ani Lacson sa X.
“She is the detoxifier that our country’s highly toxic atmosphere needs and an influential unifier of a deeply divided nation. Thank you Alex Eala for lifting the Filipino spirit. God bless you and the Philippines,” aniya.
