Ping Lacson Hopes Public, Supporters Will Take Precautions vs Hot Weather

With the heat index continuing to rise in recent days, former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson hopes the public will take the proper precautions – including supporters who go to candidates’ rallies to show their support.

Lacson pointed out that the hot weather has prompted many local government units to suspend classes, and may pose health dangers to the general public.

“I hope that it’s not just us candidates but also those joining us at our rallies who will make sure their health is not affected by the heat,” he said in Filipino, in an interview on Bombo Radyo Philippines.

Ping Lacson Cites Added Safety Feature for Commuters with EDSA Busway ‘Counterflow’

Commuters stand to benefit from an added safety feature stemming from former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson’s proposal to reverse the direction of buses along the busway at Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).

Lacson said Wednesday that with the proper infrastructure in place, commuters can get off at the center island instead of along the highway and avoid getting hit by cars, since the buses’ doors are on the right side.

“The buses’ doors are on the right side. So if you reverse the traffic flow at the busway, passengers getting off the right side would end up at the center island, so they will be safer,” he said in an interview on Bombo Radyo Philippines.

“Commuters will not be in danger of being hit by oncoming vehicles when they get off,” he added.

Protecting people’s lives by ensuring public safety must be the main focus of the investigation into the collapse of a portion of the bridge connecting Cabagan and Sta. Maria towns in Isabela province last week, former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Wednesday.

Lacson said the outcome of the investigation ordered by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the upcoming probe by the Senate should ferret out the truth behind the bridge collapse.

“The purpose of the investigation should be not just to save public funds but to ensure the safety of people’s lives,” he said in Filipino, in an interview on Bombo Radyo Philippines.

Ping Lacson: Removal from FATF Grey List to Bring in More Jobs

The Philippines’ removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)’s grey list should bring in more jobs as investors become more confident in putting their money in the Philippines, former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Friday.

Lacson also credited the passage of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 and the strengthening of the Anti-Money Laundering Act – which he authored, co-authored and/or sponsored – as well as the total ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) for the removal from the grey list.

“When we are removed from the grey list, investors should become more confident in doing business here. Also playing a big role are the Anti-Terrorism Act’s provisions on terrorist financing and Anti-Money Laundering Act,” he said in Filipino, in an interview on Bombo Radyo.

“All these combined, plus the ban on POGOs, all had a role in our removal from the FATF grey list. And the positive effect is that investors are now more confident putting their money here,” he added.

Ping Lacson to Find Ways to Expedite Budget for New NIR Regional Offices

TALISAY CITY – Should he earn a seat in the Senate, former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson intends to expedite the funding for the government’s new regional offices in the newly created Negros Island Region (NIR) for 2026.

Lacson, who also batted for tweaking the region’s name to include Siquijor, said that even if the proposed budget for the NIR is not included in the proposed 2026 budget, he would find ways to make sure it is not left behind.

“Siguro in deliberation of the 2026 budget when it goes to the Senate from the House, we’ll make sure the items needed – maski hindi for the particular year 2026, maski multi-year kung di kakayanin – at least ma-accelerate ang organization ng new region (Should the proposed 2026 budget reach the Senate, we’ll make sure there is funding for the items needed not just for 2026 but for multiple years, just to accelerate the organization of the new region),” he said at the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas press conference here Friday afternoon.
