Ping Lacson: Close Scrutiny of Budget Key to Infrastructure in Provinces

LUCENA, Quezon – A constant and close scrutiny of the national budget is key to addressing infrastructure and traffic challenges in the provinces, independent senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson stressed Friday afternoon.

Lacson, who placed second in the 2016 senatorial elections in this province, said this will help ensure that infrastructure projects, both big-ticket and locally-funded, will not be prone to substandard materials due to corruption.

“This is our problem. We do not lack the wherewithal or the budget to improve or build new infrastructure projects, but the challenge is that the funds are lost to corruption,” he said in Filipino at the press conference of the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate here.

Ping Lacson Lauds Bohol Town Mayor’s Brand of Transparency

JAGNA, Bohol – Transparency at its best. This was how independent senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson described the brand of governance practiced by the mayor of this town who he regards as his “mentor.”

Lacson said late Tuesday afternoon that he was pleasantly surprised after visiting and getting a briefing on various key projects in Jagna town from Mayor Joseph “JR” Rañola.

“It is transparency at its best. I have not seen a briefing this transparent, and I don’t think the mayor would give such a briefing if he had something to hide,” he said after visiting the projects.

Ping Lacson Ready to Help Bring Solar-Powered Irrigation to More Farmers by Scrutinizing the Budget

Former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson is prepared to help bring solar-powered irrigation to more farmers in more areas in the country, to bring down agriculture production costs.

Lacson said that should he earn a seat in the Senate, he is ready to find sources of funds for such programs by scrutinizing the national budget bill for questionable appropriations.

He said he will similarly scrutinize the budget to fund related programs, such as catch basins that impound water during rainy days and release the water if needed during the dry season.

“The budget is the solution to this. And being the budget watchdog, once I see questionable appropriations during the budget deliberations, I will have them realigned for the appropriate programs, activities and projects,” he said.

Ping Lacson to Revisit Free Tertiary Education Act to Streamline Its Procedures

Should he earn a Senate seat in May, former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson plans to revisit the Free Tertiary Education Act to streamline its procedures, after receiving information that applicants are having difficulty meeting the requirements for it.

Lacson, whose scrutiny of the national budget triggered the initial funding for the law, said the procedures may need to be simplified so that poor but deserving students will not be denied an opportunity for free education.

“We will revisit the Free Tertiary Education Act and streamline it if needed. If the information is true that many requirements are imposed on applicants, it indicates the program does not want beneficiaries. The requirements may need to be simplified,” he said in a recent interview with vloggers in Pangasinan, when told about the issue.

“The law decrees that it be simple. Could it be that the implementing rules are complicated? We must revisit it and if needed, make the needed amendments. So we will visit the Free Tertiary Education Act,” he added.

Ping Lacson to Help Keep Cebu ‘Amazing’ by Watching Budget, Empowering LGUs

CEBU CITY – Former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson intends to help keep Cebu “amazing” with his advocacies to safeguard the national budget and empower the local government units (LGUs).

Lacson, who received a big boost in his campaign after being endorsed by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Friday, said Saturday that Cebu has experienced tremendous growth but there are still towns that are poor.

“I will continue being the vanguard of the national budget, to prevent funds from being unused or misused. That is my advocacy, and that will help Cebu because our thrust is to empower the local government units with the use of the national budget,” he said in Filipino, in an interview on Bombo Radyo Cebu here.
