Even as he congratulated the Philippine National Police for a significant decline in focus crimes nationwide, former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson exhorted the police force to keep up police visibility and other crime prevention measures.
Lacson said the PNP, which regained its glory years when he headed from 1999 to 2001, must also strengthen its intelligence efforts towards crime prevention and crime suppression.
“Congratulations to our police force. Statistics won’t lie,” Lacson said in Filipino, in an interview on DZRH radio.
“We must particularly watch out for index crimes, crimes against persons and properties, like theft, murder and homicide. This reflects the peace and order situation,” he added.

Figures from the PNP showed a drop of 18.42 percent in eight focus crimes during a 70-day period from Jan. 12 to March 22, 2025; compared to the previous 70-day period from Nov. 3, 2024 to Jan. 11, 2025.
The PNP said the decline is due to improved strategies and community engagement.
PNP figures showed murder cases fell by 19.02%, homicide by 23.86%, physical injury by 33.83%, and rape by 26.98%. Robbery and theft decreased by 7.74% and 7.49%, while carnapping of motor vehicles and motorcycles dropped by 15.38% and 7.35%, respectively.
Lacson reminded the PNP to use intelligence operations to know where and when to increase police visibility in certain areas.
“If there is an increase in a particular crime in an area like theft, there must be a matching increase in police visibility. That is a function of intelligence. Intelligence is a prime mover of police operations in law enforcement,” he said.

“Ang kailangan bantayan ay index crimes, crimes against persons and properties.
