Since last week, Marcos had claimed there was a supposed attempt to take control of the Senate leadership to pave the way for constitutional amendments to extend the terms of top government officials.
Also, she claimed the supposed plan included extending the terms of the President and Vice President, and raising the minimum age requirements for both positions from 40 to 50 to disqualify Vice President Sara Duterte. Marcos reiterated this on the Senate floor Monday.
Lacson joined fellow minority bloc senators in moving to strike from the record portions of Sen. Marcos’ privilege speech containing the allegations.
“Ang pinaguusapan lang namin, kung paano natin isasalba ang integridad, dignidad at reputasyon ng Senado. Wala po kaming ibang pinaguusapan. Kaya kami nagpaplano mag-take over sa Senate leadership e para sa Con-ass, never (We talked about how to save the integrity, dignity and reputation of the Senate, and nothing else. To say that we aspire to take over the Senate leadership for Con-Ass, never)!” he said at the plenary Monday.
Lacson said he witnessed a part of the conversation between then Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Faustino Dy III, where they discussed the Speaker’s proposal to increase the number of senators from 24 to 36 – and not to extend the terms of elected officials.
He also affirmed the manifestations by his colleagues in the minority that they never discussed con-ass “in as many caucuses that we held or we had in different places.”
Lacson likewise debunked Marcos’ claim that the minority sought to extend the terms of the President and Vice President, and change their age requirements from 40 to 50 to disqualify Vice President Duterte.
“Baligtad doon sa katotohanan dahil ang narinig kong usapan nila ibababa ang age … from 40 to 35 (Nothing could be further from the truth because what I heard was that they wanted to bring down the age from 40 to 35),” he said.
“Paano nabuo ang storya na katakot-takot pa ang mga video? Wala pong katotohanan (How did they cook up that story along with their videos? That’s simply not true),” he added.
“So with that, I support the motion of the former Senate President, former Majority Leader Migz Zubiri, to strike off the record ang mga portions na offensive sa mga kapwa natin Senador (So with that I support the motion of former Senate President and Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri to strike off the record the portions that are offensive to our fellow senators),” he added.

Mula pa noong nakaraang linggo, inaangkin ni Marcos na may umano’y tangkang kontrolin ang liderato ng Senado upang bigyang-daan ang mga pag-amyenda sa Konstitusyon para mapalawig ang termino ng matataas na opisyal ng pamahalaan.
Dagdag ni Marcos, layunin umano nito na palawigin ang termino ng Pangulo at Pangalawang Pangulo, at itaas ang age requirement para sa mga ito mula 40 tungo sa 50 taong gulang upang madiskuwalipika si Vice President Sara Duterte. Inulit niya ito sa sesyon ng Senado noong Lunes.
