Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Sunday cautioned Senate President Pro Tempore and acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian against the devious tactics of disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, should he agree to a meeting with him.
Lacson said that while he is confident that Gatchalian knows how to handle Cayetano, a reminder drawn from Chinese military strategist and philosopher Sun Tzu would not do any harm.
“Sun Tzu’s Art of War: If you know the enemy and know yourself,you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle,” Lacson said in a post on X.

His post included an image of Cayetano accompanied by the line: “I’ll offer you a solution, Sen. Win” – but alongside another line saying: “Imagine that, the problem wants to offer a solution.”
Lacson said Gatchalian should already be familiar with Cayetano’s deviousness, which he had displayed since May 11, when he seized the Senate presidency by taking advantage of the situations of fellow senators like Ronald dela Rosa to gain the needed 13 votes to replace Vicente Sotto III.
Gatchalian was elected Senate President Pro Tempore and acting Senate President after 12 senators convened last June 3 and declared a quorum despite Cayetano leading the then majority bloc in a boycott of the Senate’s regular sessions.
Before the leadership change last June 3, Lacson and fellow members of the then minority bloc called on Cayetano to resign from the Senate presidency due to his dereliction of duty and for showing that “he cannot function as the leader of the Senate anymore.”
On the other hand, Lacson branded Cayetano as pathetic and so detached from reality when Cayetano insisted on presiding over the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte because he claimed he is still Senate President.

Ayon kay Lacson, bagama’t kumpiyansa siyang alam ni Gatchalian kung paano haharapin si Cayetano, hindi makasasama ang isang paalala mula sa Chinese military strategist na si Sun Tzu.

Ayon kay Lacson, dapat ay pamilyar na si Gatchalian sa pagiging mapanlinlang ni Cayetano, na aniya ay ipinakita mula pa noong Mayo 11, nang umano’y gamitin nito ang sitwasyon ng ilang kapwa senador tulad ni Ronald dela Rosa upang makuha ang kinakailangang 13 boto para mapalitan si dating Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Nahalal si Gatchalian bilang Senate President Pro Tempore at acting Senate President matapos magpulong ang 12 senador noong Hunyo 3 at magdeklara ng quorum, kahit na pinangunahan ni Cayetano ang pag-boycott ng mga regular na sesyon ng Senado.
Bago ang pagbabago sa liderato noong Hunyo 3, nanawagan si Lacson at iba pang miyembro ng dating minority bloc na magbitiw si Cayetano bilang Senate President dahil sa kapabayaan nito sa tungkulin at sa hindi na niya kakayahang pamunuan ang Senado.
Nauna nang tinawag ni Lacson na “pathetic” at “detached from reality” si Cayetano matapos nitong igiit na siya pa rin ang Senate President at tangkang pamunuan ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
