Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Thursday commended the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital for submitting an objective medical assessment of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta to the Sandiganbayan.
The Sandiganbayan ordered a separate medical examination for Marcoleta at the PGH to determine if he still needed to be confined at the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNP-GH).
With the PGH’s findings showing no medical condition that required Marcoleta’s further hospitalization, the anti-graft court ordered Marcoleta transferred to the new Quezon City Jail in Barangay Payatas.
“It’s a MIRACLE! Naka wheelchair pumasok, brisk walk lumabas. Kudos to UP-PGH for putting professionalism and integrity above all other considerations in submitting their medical report to the Sandiganbayan,” Lacson said in a post on X, noting Marcoleta managed to walk while leaving the Sandiganbayan last Wednesday.

Marcoleta was arrested last July 6 over charges of plunder and graft, in connection with a P75-million “donation” he received while he was still a congressman, but did not declare.
He was brought to the PNP-GH where doctors said he was experiencing mild pneumonia, among other conditions – yet reportedly received visitors including Vice President Sara Duterte and Sen. Robinhood Padilla.
Earlier, Lacson scored what he noted was a recurring pattern of hospitalization involving prominent personalities who are cited in contempt of the Senate, or are facing arrest for criminal cases.
He noted that former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Marcoleta, who both face plunder and graft charges before the Sandiganbayan, were confined at the PNP-GH.
Lacson, who headed the PNP from 1999 to 2001, raised the question of who will foot the bill for the stay of Bonoan and Marcoleta at the PNP-GH, which he said is intended mainly for PNP personnel and their dependents, some of whom have reportedly been denied admission despite being entitled to its services.
He intends to raise the issue during the deliberations on the proposed 2027 budgets of the PNP and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Lacson, Pinuri ang PGH sa Propesyonalismo at Integridad sa Pagsusuri kay Marcoleta
Pinuri ni Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson nitong Huwebes ang University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) sa pagsasagawa at pagsusumite nito sa Sandiganbayan ng isang patas na medikal na pagsusuri kay Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
“It’s a MIRACLE! Naka wheelchair pumasok, brisk walk lumabas. Kudos to UP-PGH for putting professionalism and integrity above all other considerations in submitting their medical report to the Sandiganbayan,” ani Lacson sa X, sabay punto na nakalakad palabas ng Sandiganbayan si Marcoleta noong Miyerkules.
