Senator-Judge Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Friday questioned the reported sales and taxable income of two companies linked to Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, seeking a Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) review of their tax records to see if their tax liabilities were correctly computed.
Lacson asked the BIR to reconcile GenCorp Industries Inc.’s reported total sales of P520,670,653 in 2025 with its reported tax payments of P777,093 amid an authorized capital stock of P5 million, and net income after tax of P3,057,535.
In Filipino: Lacson, Kinuwestiyon ang ‘Discrepancies’ sa Sales at Taxable Income Figures ng GenCorp, Cale88
“Ang binayaran niya P777K pero ang total sales P520M. So di ko ma-reconcile sa nilaki-laki ng kanilang sales P520M, ang nabayaran lang is P777K. Gusto ko makita ang computation ng 2% of Gross Income after deducting the cost of goods sold from the total sales (GenCorp paid P777,000 in taxes for 2025 but its total sales amounted to P520 million. I cannot reconcile that with sales of this magnitude, it paid only P777,000 in taxes. I want to see the computation of 2% of Gross Income after deducting the cost of goods sold from the total sales),” he told BIR Office of the Commissioner chief of staff Atty. Anne Loraine Garcia-Marquez at Friday’s impeachment trial.
The minimum corporate income tax (MCIT) is generally equivalent to 2% of a corporation’s gross income and applies beginning the fourth taxable year following the year it commenced business operations, whenever the MCIT exceeds the regular corporate income tax.
During the exchange, Garcia-Marquez cited cost of sales of about P406 million and gross income of approximately P114 million, which would translate to an MCIT of about P2.28 million at the 2% rate. However, the applicability of MCIT to GenCorp for 2025 must also be established.
When Marquez said her copy of the records seemed “malabo” (vague), Lacson remarked: “Pero sobrang labo ng kwenta kaya ako nagtatanong eh (I found the computation vague too, that’s why I’m asking).”
Lacson also raised questions about Cale88 Foods Corp., which had authorized capital stock of P2 million but reported aggregate sales of P208 million from 2022 to 2025, while declaring cumulative negative taxable income of about P8 million over the four-year period.
He noted that in 2024, Cale88 had total sales of P150.7 million but declared negative P6.128 million in taxable net income.
Ano ang implication as far as BIR? Mako-consider nyo bang red flag pag ganito (I am comparing the negative taxable income to their total sales, it does not seem to compute. What is the implication as far as the BIR? Do you consider this a red flag)?” he asked.
Marquez said they can check the figures during an audit to determine why Cale88 declared losses.
The Vice President listed GenCorp as a business interest in her SALNs, while Cale88 has been linked to her husband Atty Manases Carpio.

“Gusto ko makita ang computation ng 2% of Gross Income after deducting the cost of goods sold from the total sales,” aniya kay BIR Office of the Commissioner Chief of Staff Atty.
Ano ang implication as far as BIR? Mako-consider nyo bang red flag pag ganito?” tanong niya.
Manases Carpio.
