“Be it resolved, as it is hereby resolved by the Senate, to condemn the continued presence and hostile acts of Chinese Maritime Vessels within our EEZ and urge the government to fortify, amplify and enhance our positions in the West Philippine Sea thru defense and security agreements with other nations, and by consistently invoking and protecting our internationally recognized rights through continuing diplomatic dialogue with nations of mutual/common interests in the West Philippine Sea,” ani Lacson sa kanyang resolusyon.

Pag-asa Island, a part of the Kalayaan Island Group in the West Philippine Sea, is ours – and our government must consistently act to thwart the bullying in the area by China.

This is the gist of Senate Resolution 954 filed by Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson, who visited Pag-asa Island in his capacity as chairman of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security last Nov. 20.

“We should be more assertive. Di ba dati napaka-accommodating natin? We are already being bullied because we don’t do too much,” ani Lacson sa kanyang panayam sa CNN Philippines.

“It’s only now na nagkaroon ng awakening not only on the part of our leaders but other countries as well,” dagdag pa ni Lacson patungkol sa mga statements of concern mula sa ibang bansa bunsod ng nangyari noong Nov. 16 kung saan hinarang at tinira ng water cannon ng Chinese vessels ang dalawang Philippine vessels na nagdadala ng supplies sa Ayungin shoal.

Lacson Pushes Consistent Assertiveness from PH on WPS

We should be more assertive – and consistent – in making our stand on the West Philippine Sea.

On this note, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson pushed Tuesday for a more authoritative stand by the Philippines on its sovereignty and sovereign rights in the area – especially at this time of awakening by other nations on the issue.

“We should be more assertive. Di ba dati napaka-accommodating natin (Were we not too accommodating before)? We are already being bullied because we don’t do too much,” he said in an interview on CNN Philippines.

“I think this is a cause for concern.

Lacson Pushes High School for Students, Added Hardship Allowance for Teachers in Pag-Asa Island

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Monday batted for additional school facilities and teachers in Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea, after learning of the plight of learners there when he visited the area last weekend.

Lacson also pushed for added benefits for teachers, as the island has only one elementary school and two teachers catering to 34 students coming from 54 households, with the students having little hope of a high school education.

“I think this is a cause for concern. After Grade 6, wala na, tapos na, wala nang kinabukasan ang bata (After Grade 6, the students won’t have any more opportunity to get higher education that will give them a chance at a better future),” he said during the deliberations for the 2022 budget of the Department of Education.

Ping, Di Nagpatinag sa Babala ng Tsina sa Pag-Asa Island

“This is my country and no foreign armed forces can tell me to stay out.”

“Being radio challenged by a Chinese Coast Guard vessel stationed more than three nautical miles off the coast of Pag-asa, I never considered backing out. Aside from the possibility of being fired at being remote, this is my country, not theirs. They had no right. That was my mindset,” pahayag ni Lacson sa kanyang Twitter account nitong Linggo ng gabi.

Sen. Lacson’s Arrival Statement after Visit to Pag-asa Island:

We came from a visit to one of the most beautiful places in the country, the island called Pagasa, meaning hope, belonging to the municipality of Kalayaan meaning freedom, in the middle of the West Philippine Sea.

Hope for Pagasa in Kalayaan. Hope for lasting peace and tranquility in the WPS area, and freedom of navigation for all nations to enjoy.

As we were approaching the airstrip in the island, our pilot was challenged by one of the Chinese Coast Guard vessels stationed a little beyond the 3-nautical mile distance from the island of Pagasa.
