Ping Lacson Pushes Transformation of LGUs into Smart Cities to Curb Corruption

Former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson is pushing for the transformation of local government units (LGUs) into smart cities to help curb corruption by minimizing human intervention – while making public services more efficient.

Lacson said the experiences of Baguio and Carmona Cities in the Philippines, as well as Shenzhen in China, show how technology can be used to monitor a city’s key systems including transportation and infrastructure.

Also included in the benefits of having smart cities are crime monitoring and reporting, he noted.

“In this day and age of modern information technology, we must transform into something more technical. Humans are very limited in monitoring key systems. With the use of technology, we can keep corruption in check,” he said in Filipino at an open forum with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) late Tuesday.

Ping Lacson Gets Support for Anti-Corruption Crusade from Business Community

Senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson’s crusade against corruption may no longer be as lonely as before, after he received pledges and shows of support from the business community – including the chamber of commerce in Imus, Cavite.

Former Imus councilor Corazon “Baby” del Mundo, now with the Imus City Chamber of Commerce, gave this assurance to Lacson Tuesday afternoon in an open forum with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

“You are a rare breed, Senator. The whole Imus City Chamber of Commerce is here now, there are 15 of us. We promise you it will not be a lonely fight for you,” del Mundo told Lacson in a mix of English and Filipino.

“We believe in you, Senator,” she added.

Ping Lacson to Resume Role as Voice vs Corruption in the Senate

Should he be entrusted with a Senate seat in May, former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson will reprise his role as the voice of the Filipino people in calling out and fighting corruption as well as other forms of wrongdoing.

While Lacson said he had already served as such a voice – oftentimes a lonely one – he stressed the need for all sectors such as the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) to join him in making a lasting impact through their voice, all for a brighter future for Filipinos.

“I will continue to be your voice, no matter how small and insignificant to some of our countrymen, in fighting corruption in the government,” Lacson said in Filipino in his speech Tuesday afternoon before the first General Membership Meeting of the PCCI.

“Needless to say, I am sure that most, if not all of you would agree that taking up the mission of being such a voice is both a privilege and a great responsibility,” he added.

Ping Lacson: Speech before the PCCI 1st General Membership Meeting

Before I begin, let me share with you a short story – A man was walking on his farm one quiet Sunday afternoon – a rare break from the series of meetings and activities he had attended for the past several weeks. The heat of the April sun had mildened.

It was the perfect time to enjoy the gentle wind carrying the scent of freshly cut grass, softly touching his face. As he savored the stillness, he stopped by his favorite side of his pond, picked a dark gray pebble lying on the ground and tossed it sideways into the pond. As the pebble landed in the water, he noticed the instant ripples it created, spreading to the surface of the water, even reaching the far end of the pond.

From here, the man realized something: no matter how small that pebble – as a man’s voice or action is – it can create ripples that, in one way or another, make an impact – sometimes one that we cannot even foresee.

Lacson Bares Concrete, Implementable, Future-Proof Strategy before PCCI

Good morning, everyone.

In my long years in public office, experience has taught me never to go to ‘war’ unprepared — may it be as a Unit Commander in the defunct PC-INP of the AFP, as the Chief of the Philippine National Police, or in my job as a lawmaker for more than 17 years – whether in exposing corruption perpetrated by the powerful and influential culprits in government, or checking misuse and abuse of the national budget.

Today, we face the most disruptive ‘war’ of our lifetime:
