Ping Lacson: Forming Task Force and Removing AKG Chief a First Step but Not Quite Enough to Curb KFR Cases

CEBU – Forming a task force to fast-track the investigation into the kidnapping and killing of Chinese entrepreneur Anson Que is a first step but not quite enough to curb kidnap-for-ransom (KFR) cases, former Philippine National Police and senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Friday.

Lacson said the only way that the Chinese Filipino community and the public can be mollified amid the recent KFR cases is if the PNP actually solves the case and brings the perpetrators to justice.

“It is commendable that the PNP formed a task force headed by P/Lt. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo and P/Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III. These are very good officers who are used to anti-crime operations. Okubo worked under me at the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force, he is a very good operator against crime. I hope they can gather enough leads that could result in a positive conclusion, so KFR cases will not happen again,” Lacson said in Filipino in an interview with DYHP radio here.

Ping Lacson Blasts ‘Scalawags in Uniform’ in Las Piñas ‘Armed Robbery,’ Pushes Intensified Internal Cleansing in PNP

Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Saturday blasted the 31 police officers who were involved in a raid that led to the theft of some P75 million in cash and valuables earlier this week.

Lacson, who reformed the PNP when he headed it from 1999 to 2001, said the raid was more of an armed robbery than a police operation – and the police officers involved as scalawags.

He pushed for an intensified internal cleansing in the PNP so incidents like this will not happen again.

“Indisputably, it was not a police operation but an armed robbery. To describe these cops as police scalawags would be an understatement,” he said in a post on X.

Ping Lacson to PNP: Enforce Laws Against Motorists in Road Rage Incidents

ANTIPOLO CITY – Former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Friday called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) to enforce the law against motorists involved in road rage incidents.

Lacson, who headed the PNP from 1999 to 2001, said gun control measures are now very strict especially during the campaign period, because of the Commission on Elections’ gun ban.

“The PNP should be reminded to enforce the laws especially on gun control,” he said in Filipino at the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate’s press conference here.

Ping Lacson: Jeepney Drivers, Operators Must Have Leeway to Buy Vehicles

Jeepney drivers and operators must have enough leeway from the government to buy their own vehicles under the jeepney modernization program, former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Thursday.

Speaking at a gathering with jeepney drivers and operators organized by former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson, Lacson said it would be better if government merely gave standards and specifications of the vehicles they would acquire.

“It is better if government merely gave parameters and specifications, then it’s up to you to choose where to buy your vehicles. This is better than the government ramming down your throats on what to buy,” Lacson said in Filipino.

Ping Lacson to PNP: Keep up Good Work on Crime Prevention Measures

Even as he congratulated the Philippine National Police for a significant decline in focus crimes nationwide, former Senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson exhorted the police force to keep up police visibility and other crime prevention measures.

Lacson said the PNP, which regained its glory years when he headed from 1999 to 2001, must also strengthen its intelligence efforts towards crime prevention and crime suppression.

“Congratulations to our police force. Statistics won’t lie,” Lacson said in Filipino, in an interview on DZRH radio.

“We must particularly watch out for index crimes, crimes against persons and properties, like theft, murder and homicide. This reflects the peace and order situation,” he added.
