On China’s Use of Water Cannons in Our EEZ

We may not realize it but China derisively hitting our coast guard vessels with water cannons within our EEZ is a not-so-subtle manifestation of how little respect they have for our maritime forces, like peeing at our faces in our “own backyard”.

What to do? My consistent answer is – balance of power in WPS. How? Build alliances with more powerful countries to accomplish that. I’m thankful that the current administration, unintended or not, is doing it.

Make no mistake. I join all Filipino patriots and our international allies in saluting our personnel who regularly undertake the dangerous resupply mission, especially the Ph Marine contingent routinely posted in BRP Sierra Madre. My heart goes out to them.

On the $500M US Aid to the AFP

Compared to the $8B US aid to Taiwan, the $500M “alms” to the Philippines is not even good enough to console an “ally” willing to share Taiwan’s risks in allowing additional EDCA sites in Northern Luzon to help facilitate movement of US war materiel and logistics in case of a China invasion.

More than anything, I am expressing our country’s dignity and self-respect.

“I’m supportive of a joint exploration with any country, not necessarily China. We don’t have the wherewithal or technical expertise to explore oil,” ani Lacson sa mga local government officials at local business leaders.

“While we all point to the Philippine Coast Guard as the primary maritime agency of the government to strengthen our country’s sensitive frontiers in the West Philippine Sea, we can no longer keep the predicaments of the agency at bay,” ani Lacson.
