Ping Lacson to Authorities: Recover and Return Ransom Money in Anson Que Kidnap-Slay

Authorities must not only recover – but also return – the ransom money in the kidnap-slay of Chinese Filipino trader Anson Que and his driver Armanie Pabillo, former Senator and Philippine National Police Chief and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson stressed Tuesday.

Lacson said this will further help the PNP regain the trust and confidence of the public, especially the Chinese Filipino community.

He also pointed out the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) will have a key role in this since the ransom payment in recent cases has become more sophisticated and involves e-wallets.

“Recovering even a portion of the ransom money and returning the same to the victim’s family will further help the PNP regain the trust and confidence of the public,” he said on his X account.

“If you don’t recover the ransom money, yet you have arrested the suspects, what will the victim’s family and the Chinese Filipino community think? Where is the ransom money? There should be ransom recovered since you arrested the suspects,” he added in Filipino, in television interviews on One News and NET25.

Ping Lacson Commends PNP for Solving Anson Que Kidnap-Slay: Perpetrators’ Conviction is Next Step

Former Senator and Philippine National Police Chief and now 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Sunday lauded the PNP for solving the kidnap-slay of Chinese Filipino businessman Anson Que and his driver Armanie Pabillo.

But Lacson, who solved several kidnapping cases during his career as a law enforcer, also reminded the PNP that the next step now is to ensure the conviction of the perpetrators.

“Just as we criticized the PNP for the kidnap-slay of Anson Que and Armanie Pabillo, we must now give them credit for the arrest of 3 out of at least 5 suspects. Equally important is the conviction of ALL the perpetrators by building an airtight case,” Lacson said in a post on his X account Sunday.

Ping Lacson Reminds PNP: Think of Kidnap Victims’ Families before Sharing ‘Updates’

Before making public any “updates” on their investigation into kidnapping cases, the Philippine National Police may need to be sensitive and think about the kidnap victims’ families first.

This was the reminder of former Senator and PNP chief and 2025 senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson, as he said there is no gain in prematurely sharing information with the public.

He cited the kidnap-slay of businessman Anson Que, where the PNP was quoted in reports as saying it is looking into the possible involvement of a group involved in Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO).

On Saturday, Que’s family denied any connections of the slain trader to POGO, even as they maintained they will cooperate with the PNP.

“It’s a double whammy for the victim’s family. They are still mourning the killing of Mr. Que, then they come out with such information. It is painful for the family,” he said in Filipino in an interview on Bombo Radyo Cebu, when asked about the issue.
