Ping Lacson: ‘Unprecedentedly Dangerous’ US Attack on Iran Nuclear Facilities May Trigger World War

Senator-elect Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Monday voiced concern that the Trump administration’s “unprecedentedly dangerous” bombing of nuclear facilities in Iran may trigger a world war.

Lacson also said he trusts that Philippine authorities have in place the needed evacuation and contingency plans for more than two million Filipinos deployed in the Middle East who may be affected by the conflict.

“US President Trump’s unprecedentedly dangerous move to ‘obliterate’ Iran’s highly fortified nuclear facilities, if not as factual as he had described it could trigger a world war on a scale nobody has ever witnessed or read about,” Lacson said on X.

At the Hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee

At the hearing of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations,  Sen. Lacson urged the Department of Foreign Affairs to ensure humane treatment for Filipino workers and their children who are to be deported from Israel. “I have a piece of advice: Kindly remind them of (former President) Manuel Luis Quezon during the Holocaust and maybe they will be more humane in treating our Filipino children there.”

Sen. Lacson also sought more Transfer of Sentenced Persons Treaties, like the one the Philippines has with Spain. Such a treaty allows Filipinos serving jail time abroad to serve their sentences here in the Philippines. “Maybe in coordination with (the countries/territories concerned), we can pursue that path.”

On the President’s inclusion of retiring military and police officers in his visit to Israel as a ‘gift’

Goodwill may be a better word, or what the President actually meant. Every official presidential trip abroad must have a purpose better than just being a gift to anyone in government. The reason is plain as it is simple – government officials are always expected to serve their best.

Rewards for the more deserving come in the form of promotions, awards, even a pat on the back.
