Lacson: 2 DPWH Bulacan Officials Lost At Least P300M Each in Casino Gambling

At least two Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials in Bulacan squandered more than P300 million each in casino gambling, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson bared Monday.

During the interpellation of his Aug. 20 privilege speech on substandard and ghost flood control projects, Lacson said he has given advance information of these two officials to new DPWH head Vince Dizon.

“The two of them, as per my information, used aliases. They hid their true identities, and used fictitious names,” Lacson said. He said one is a district engineer and another is a minor functionary.

“So you can just imagine the enormity of the corruption that is going on. This is only in Bulacan,” he added. He said he got hold of the aliases they used, so authorities can identify them or get the records of their winnings and losses.

On the New Secretary of the DPWH

The President made both a hard decision and a good choice in Secretary Vince Dizon to replace a beleaguered DPWH secretary.

I have watched and followed Vince Dizon’s indefatigable, almost daily effort to solve the numerous problems that beset the transportation sector. I can only wish him Godspeed and more importantly, good health.

Jeepney Driver’s Son Ping Lacson Proposes Win-Win Solution to Jeepney Modernization Row in Negros

TALISAY CITY, Negros Occidental – Former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Friday proposed a win-win solution that will address the concerns of jeepney operators and drivers regarding the government’s jeepney modernization program in this province.

Lacson, whose father was a jeepney driver, suggested a setup where jeepney drivers get to retain their individual franchises, and not have to transfer the ownership of such franchises to a cooperative.

He said he would bring this up to new Transportation Secretary Vivencio “Vince” Dizon for his consideration.

“Jeepney drivers or operators will retain their individual franchises, even if the franchises are made a requirement to be a member of a cooperative. Because if the franchise is transferred to the cooperative, the drivers and operators feel they have lost ownership,” Lacson said in Filipino at the press conference of the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate here.

“We advised them to be more assertive. Senate President Sotto even said that if they are sure they are right and their ‘superiors’ are wrong, they can ‘defy’ them. Also, it is the people on the ground such as mayors who can appreciate the situation better. So it is important that they be given flexibility and more autonomy in the implementation of the vaccination program,” banggit ni Lacson sa panayam sa kanya ng CNN Philippines.

Lacson: Flexibility, More Practical Regulations Key to Success of Vaccination Drive

More assertiveness from the country’s vaccination czars and more flexibility for implementers and decision-makers on the ground will be crucial to the success of the government’s efforts to accelerate its COVID-19 vaccination drive and achieve herd immunity quickly, Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson said.

Lacson stressed this following a meeting Thursday night between him, Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Sen. Ronald dela Rosa on one hand, and testing czar Vivencio Dizon and contact tracing czar Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on the other.

He also said the Senate will conduct a Committee of the Whole hearing on Tuesday, June 15, to exercise its oversight function on the government’s utilization of its P82.5-billion for the vaccination program and to evaluate the protocols and guidelines used by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. The hearing is initially scheduled at 10 a.m.

“We advised them to be more assertive. Senate President Sotto even said that if they are sure they are right and their ‘superiors’ are wrong, they can ‘defy’ them. Also, it is the people on the ground such as mayors who can appreciate the situation better. So it is important that they be given flexibility and more autonomy in the implementation of the vaccination program,” Lacson said in an interview on CNN Philippines.
