Lacson: Disgraced Ex-SP Cayetano’s Insincerity Sank His Ceasefire Overtures

Disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano sought a ceasefire with Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson through some of his colleagues in the majority bloc after Lacson exposed anomalous infrastructure projects in Cayetano’s bailiwick of Taguig City – but Cayetano himself sank the overtures by publicly contradicting them, casting doubts on his own sincerity.

Lacson said Friday that Cayetano privately asked at least five senators from the majority bloc to relay his request for a ceasefire and for the Senate to focus on legislative work, only to publicly deny making such overtures.

“Where is your sincerity when you offer a ceasefire, then deny it at the first opportunity?” Lacson said in English and Filipino, in interviews on DZBB and True FM.

Asked to confirm if Cayetano was the one who sought a ceasefire, Lacson replied: “That is correct, absolutely.”

Lacson Rejects ‘Ceasefire’ Offer After Exposing Infra Project Anomalies in Disgraced Ex-SP Cayetano’s Taguig

Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Thursday declared there would be no “ceasefire” after exposing alleged anomalies involving infrastructure projects in Taguig City, the political bailiwick of disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.

Lacson said that the offer of a “ceasefire” by someone who had arbitrarily and indiscriminately opened fire without provocation is “hypocrisy aimed at buying time to recover and reconsolidate for his next sneaky move.”

“CEASEFIRE MY FOOT! Anong uri ng tao ang magde-declare ng giyera, toy gun ang dala, at laway ang bala; pag na-confront ng bomba, magre-request ng ceasefire, pabulong pa?” he said on X.

On the PNP’s No-Ceasefire Stance on the NPA

I support the PNP on this. The CPP/NPA is almost a spent force – thanks to the efforts of former President Rodrigo Duterte and the security forces during his term as president.

We should not squander those gains by giving them – already designated as a terrorist group – another breathing space to regroup and reconsolidate their strength to fight and overthrow the duly constituted authority which is their ONLY agenda in the first place.

If they surrender peacefully and unconditionally, they should be treated humanely and justly as fellow Filipinos. Otherwise, government should remain hard on them.
