Lacson: Existing Budget for VP Impeachment Trial More Than Enough

The remaining budget of about P11 million for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio is more than enough to cover the remaining proceedings, Senator-Judge and Senate accounts committee chairman Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said Thursday.

Lacson cited figures from Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian showing a little over P14 million had been spent for the impeachment trial from the P25.7-million continuing appropriation under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the trial.

Lacson: More Congressional ‘Iyakan’ Looms as Senate Reviews 2027 Budget Red Flags

More “iyakan” (crying) among members of the House of Representatives may lie ahead as the Senate scrutinizes red flags in the House version of the P7.2-trillion proposed national budget for 2027, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson said.

Lacson, a longtime watchdog of public funds, said the Senate may restore “hundreds of billions” of pesos in cuts and realignments by the House, including changes to funds for Foreign-Assisted Projects (FAPs) and additional funding for flood control projects.

Lacson: Disgraced Ex-SP Cayetano’s Insincerity Sank His Ceasefire Overtures

Disgraced ex-Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano sought a ceasefire with Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson through some of his colleagues in the majority bloc after Lacson exposed anomalous infrastructure projects in Cayetano’s bailiwick of Taguig City – but Cayetano himself sank the overtures by publicly contradicting them, casting doubts on his own sincerity.

Lacson said Friday that Cayetano privately asked at least five senators from the majority bloc to relay his request for a ceasefire and for the Senate to focus on legislative work, only to publicly deny making such overtures.

“Where is your sincerity when you offer a ceasefire, then deny it at the first opportunity?” Lacson said in English and Filipino, in interviews on DZBB and True FM.

Asked to confirm if Cayetano was the one who sought a ceasefire, Lacson replied: “That is correct, absolutely.”

Ping Lacson Comments on “Petty” Delay in Impeachment Proceedings, Hopeful 20th Congress Can Render Fair Judgment

Incoming Senator Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson commented Tuesday on the “petty” delays in the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, even as he is hopeful that the 20th Congress can render a fair judgment on the matter if the trial crosses over to it.

Lacson said in a radio interview that even old-timers in the Senate did not expect such debates on when to convene the impeachment court, since these are merely ministerial formalities.

“On the matter of when to convene, it’s petty to say the least. What is the difference between Monday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 11? Practically speaking, it doesn’t make much difference because the impeachment court will be convened. In fact, the presiding officer already took his oath, and the senator judges will take their oath later today,” he said in Filipino in an interview on DZBB radio.
