On the Recently Concluded 2025 Midterm Elections

HALALAN 2025: The people have spoken. Big surprises on big wins and big upsets. From a non-expert with long experience in campaigns and elections, these are some of the game changers:

(a) the millennials and Gen Z who went out and voted;
(b) social media;
(c) former President Rodrigo Duterte;
(d) The much-hyped administration machinery especially during the midterm elections failed.

All that being said, the biggest beneficiaries of “DuterTen” and “Alyansa Minus Two” are Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan. To their credit, they are both qualified, and they campaigned hard, to the last day of the 90-day campaign period. I certainly look forward to working with them again in the Senate in case the current trend of the election results holds.

There are certainly lots to learn from the recently concluded midterm elections. One thing is for certain: when all is said and done, it’s the people who get to decide. This is the essence of democracy.

Ping Lacson to Champion Good Governance, Leadership by Example in Senate

Former Sen. Ping Lacson took part in a gathering with religious leaders in Baguio City Thursday evening.

A “doable” good governance and leadership by example will be the main values championed by former Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson should he earn a seat in the Senate in 2025.

Lacson said leaders who are entrusted with authority must use their mandate to protect the weak and helpless from the greed and abuses of others – including those who betray their mandate.

“We have a primary objective in mind: protect the weak and the helpless from the greed and abuses of the others similarly given equal authority and power, but turned their backs on promises made when campaigning to secure the mandate with an entirely different and malevolent motive of abusing their power and authority for self-aggrandizement,” he said at a gathering with religious leaders in Baguio City Thursday evening.

Addressing the Baguio City Pastors’ Night

According to Luke 10:19: “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”

When I came across this Bible verse, I thought of leaders entrusted with authority or power if you will, especially those of us who at some point in our careers were elected to serve the interests of the very same people who gave us the mandate to serve them.

To Kiko and Bam: Good Luck!

Good luck to my two former Senate colleagues. I say it with no pun intended.
